Changes at the top end of town

It's mostly change at the top end of The Den, with new appointments Andrea & Chris joining incumbent, butter would melt-in-his-mouth head gaffer Costi.

We welcome Andrea Lombardo as assistant to Costi Puscasu for our Senior Men’s team.

Andrea's playing career started at Brescia Calcio (Serie A/B) playing for all the juniors up to the Primavera and then in the Seniors at semi professional level before coming to Australia.

He has since acquired all three Licenses, now holding the coveted A, and has had several roles with Juniors Npl, Technical Director, State league teams and in the last 5 seasons as Head coach of Npl U21s at Richmond, Northcote and the last 3 years Brunswick City.

Andrea brings a greater analytical and tactical nous to our men's game, and will also help out in the 21s when needed.

Chris Greechan is also welcomed as the new 21s head coach. Chris' interpersonal skills - articulate, respectful but clearly formed view of what he wants from our 21s: Senior ready players who are competitive, club focussed playing for one another was a clincher in his appointment.

His mantra is “development of elite training programs (Technical, Tactical, Psychological)”, and he prioritises the delivery of sessions based on FFA Curriculum, but skewed towards our lads’ needs.

Chris also recognises that player wellbeing and pathway advice is crucial to their maturity, having played at VPL level under some of the country’s great coaches.

Liaising with club board to communicate direction of playing group is a marker the Lions Committee cited as vital, and one he has fulfilled whilst Head Coach at Albion Rovers whose season finished early but just 2 wins shy of top spot in NWS2.

Chris says "My Interests are heavily based around family and this was another big reason for wanting to be a part of the Lions - a family-oriented club full of great people. I share a strong passion for constantly improving myself as a coach and learning new ways of doing things.

I love collaborating with fellow coaches to gain knowledge and constantly improve my approach."

Sait Guler is once again the preferred 2nd assistant to Costi, retaining his spot from last year.
